GT40 Pro Review: Is This Handheld Car Vacuum Worth It?

Short answer: the GT40 Pro is worth it if you want to keep your car tidy little and often: crumbs, sand, pet hair and the dust in vents and seat rails, cleared in a couple of minutes without dragging the house hoover out to the drive. It is not a replacement for a mains-powered household vacuum or a full valet. Is a handheld car vacuum actually worth it?

For most drivers, yes, for one simple reason: frequency beats deep cleaning. Crumbs that get trodden into the carpet for a month are much harder to lift than crumbs cleared the same week, and pet hair works its way deeper into the fabric every time someone sits down.

What should you check before buying any handheld car vacuum?

Whatever you choose, look at these six points:

1. Runtime against your use. A full interior clean takes longer than a quick touch-up. Look for a stated runtime, not just "long-lasting".
2. How the bin empties. If you have to dig the dust out by hand, you'll put it off.
3. Filter care. A clogged filter reduces suction. A spare filter lets you use one while the other dries.
4. The nozzles included. Seat rails, cup holders and door pockets need a narrow tip; seats need a brush head.
5. How it charges. USB-C means you can top it up in the car or from a laptop charger.

How do you get the best clean from it?

1. Blow first. Switch to blowing with one of the air nozzles and push dust out of the vents, seat rails and door seals towards the floor.
2. Do the mats. Fit the Wide Suction Head and use short, overlapping passes.
3. Seats next. Switch to the Brush Vacuum Head for fabric and crumbs in the seams.
4. Tight spots last. Use the narrowest nozzle for cup holders, door pockets and the gap between the seats and the centre console.
5. Empty and rinse. Empty the bin, rinse the filter now and then and fit a dry spare while it dries.
6. Keep it in the car. It fits in a door pocket or the glove box, ready for a weekly two-minute tidy.
