GT40 Pro Home Review: Is a Handheld Vacuum Worth It?
By Laura Pemberton · Updated on 9 October 2026
Short answer: the GT40 Pro is worth it at home if you are tired of getting the big hoover out for small jobs: crumbs after meals, the stairs, the sofa, pet hair, the corners the big machine can't reach. It is not a replacement for your main vacuum on whole floors. One thing to say upfront: the GT40 Pro is a product we sell, so this is our own guide, written to be straight with you about what it does and doesn't do. It is not an independent test.
What is the GT40 Pro, exactly?
It is a cordless handheld vacuum and air blower, charged by USB-C. The same machine is sold for the car and for the home, with the same kit in the box. The facts we stand behind:
- Suction of up to 95,000 Pa, from a brushless motor
- Up to 3 hours of continuous use from the Lithium PRO GEAR battery
- Under 50 dB, with a single button
- A washable HEPA filter that captures and traps 99.9% of dust and allergens (supplier figure)
- A bin that empties straight over the kitchen bin, without touching the dust
- It also blows air and inflates, handy for air mattresses and pool inflatables
It is light enough to use with one hand.
What's in the box?
| Item | Quantity |
|---|---|
| GT40 Pro cordless vacuum and air blower | 1 |
| Washable HEPA filters | 3 (1 fitted, 2 spare) |
| Attachments: Precision Air Detail Nozzle, Wide Air Diffuser, Extended Blower Tube, Micro Jet Tip, Brush Vacuum Head, Wide Suction Head | 6 |
| USB-C charging cable | 1 |
Is a handheld vacuum worth it for the home?
For many households, yes, for one reason: you'll actually use it. The mess in a busy home is small and constant, and the effort of getting a full-size vacuum out is what makes people leave it. A Mumsnet user put it in one line: "I'm getting tired of dragging out the normal vacuum every 10 mins!"
It earns its place if you:
- Have children and crumbs under the table after every meal
- Have a dog or cat and hair on the sofa and the stairs
- Want to do the stairs without carrying the big vacuum up and down
- Live in a flat or a small home with little storage
- Also want to keep the car tidy
As a MoneySavingExpert forum member said of what they wanted one for: "Wanted mainly for stairs and the odd bit of spot cleaning (when it's not worth getting the full side vac out)."
Where does it make the biggest difference at home?
| Room or job | Attachment | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen crumbs, under the table | Wide Suction Head | Saves getting the dustpan and brush out after every meal |
| Sofa, cushions, throws | Brush Vacuum Head | Short passes lift crumbs and hair from the seams |
| Stairs | Brush Vacuum Head | Light and cordless, with no cable to trip on |
| Pet hair on fabric | Brush Vacuum Head | For heavy shedders, add the Pet Hair Nozzle |
| Skirting boards, window and door tracks | A narrow attachment | The big vacuum's head is usually too wide |
| Keyboards, shelves, vents | Blower attachments | Blow the dust out, then vacuum it up |
When is it not the right choice?
Be honest about the job. Which?, which tests handheld vacuums, says they are "perfect for quick touch-ups" but "don't have the battery life or suction power needed for deep cleaning." That matches how we see it. A compact handheld is the wrong tool if you want to:
- Clean every floor in the house in one go
- Deep clean thick carpets
- Replace your full-size vacuum entirely
Many households keep both: the handheld for everyday mess, the big vacuum in the cupboard for the occasional full clean.
How does it compare with the other options?
| Option | Power source | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cordless handheld (like the GT40 Pro) | Built-in battery, USB-C | Daily crumbs, stairs, sofa, pet hair, the car | Not built for whole floors |
| Cordless stick vacuum | Battery | Floors in a small home | Bulkier to store, awkward on sofas and in the car |
| Full-size corded vacuum | Mains | Whole-house cleans, thick carpet | Effort to get out, so small jobs wait |
| Dustpan and brush | None | Instant small spills | Fine dust and hair are hard to sweep up |
Does it help with dust and allergens?
The GT40 Pro's washable HEPA filter captures and traps 99.9% of dust and allergens, according to our supplier. The filter is there to keep fine dust inside the vacuum. It is a cleaning tool, not a treatment, so we make no health promises. Wash the filter regularly and let it dry fully; with two spares in the box, you always have a dry one to fit.
What do customers often ask our support team?
These are real questions our UK-based support team answers after a GT40 Pro arrives:
- "My filters and attachments are missing." They aren't: the two spare filters and the six attachments are packed inside the main product box, not in a separate parcel. Check every compartment of the box before getting in touch.
- "I paid for the battery upgrade, where is it?" The higher-capacity battery is already installed inside the device. There is nothing extra to fit.
For keeping the battery in good shape, see our guide on how to make a cordless vacuum battery last longer.
What do you get with it?
It comes with our Lifetime Warranty and free replacement, a 90-Day Money-Back Guarantee, and a real person on our UK-based support team answering 7 days a week. Lost or broken accessories are replaced free. Spare filters and extra nozzles are in the GT40 Pro accessories. You can see the full details on the GT40 Pro Homes page.
FAQ
Is it any good for the stairs?
It is one of the jobs it does best: it is light and cordless, so there is no heavy machine to carry up and down and no cable to trail.
Can I use it when someone is asleep?
It runs at under 50 dB, which makes a quick tidy after the children are in bed less disruptive than getting a full-size vacuum out.
Will it replace my full-size hoover?
No. Think of it as the tool you reach for every day, with the big vacuum kept for the occasional deep clean.
Can I use it in the car too?
Yes, it is the same machine as our car version. Our GT40 Pro car review covers it in the car.
